The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has arrested two persons over separate videos containing alleged inciteful and offensive comments concerning Prophet Mohammed.

The first suspect, Masud Abdullah, 35, an Imam, was arrested in connection with a video in which he allegedly advocated violence against people who speak ill of Prophet Mohammed.

According to the Police, preliminary information indicates that Abdullah made the remarks while delivering a sermon at a mosque at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.

In a related case, the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has arrested Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, also known as Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, over a separate video in which he was allegedly seen making derogatory and offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.

The Police said investigations into both cases are ongoing and the suspects will be taken through the due process of the law.

The arrests come as the Police caution against the use of religious or constitutional freedoms to promote violence or encourage attacks against others.

The Service reminded religious leaders, preachers, community leaders and social media commentators that while freedom of religion and expression are protected, such freedoms do not extend to statements that incite violence or encourage people to harm others.

The Police said persons found engaging in such conduct will be arrested and made to face the law.
