A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria, has ordered the remand of a woman accused of allegedly trafficking 13 girls to Ghana for prostitution.

The suspect, identified as Christiana Tengu Tsavkaha, also known as Christiana Angle, was arraigned on charges of conspiracy and human trafficking.

The court ordered that she be remanded at Yaikyor Prison and adjourned the case to October 29, 2026, for further mention.

The development was confirmed by Benue-based activist Zege Orkwande, who disclosed the arrest in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 11.

According to Mr Orkwande, Tsavkaha was arrested after an extended search for her in connection with the allegations.

He further cited statements attributed to the alleged victims, claiming that the suspect trafficked 13 girls from Benue to Ghana, where they were allegedly forced into prostitution.

The allegations are yet to be tested in court, and Tsavkaha remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The case adds to concerns over the movement of young women across borders under circumstances that may expose them to exploitation and trafficking.

With the matter now before the court, further proceedings are expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the alleged trafficking and the identities and roles of other persons who may have been involved.
