The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a detained pastor at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

The suspect, identified as Sibamay Zakaria, is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.

The incident occurred after the pastor was arrested over alleged comments deemed offensive to Prophet Muhammad.

A video circulating on social media showed the handcuffed pastor being slapped by a civilian while at the Police Headquarters.

The incident has generated public concern and calls for an investigation into how the assault occurred while the pastor was in police custody.

The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police said any person found culpable will be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary processes.

The police service has not disclosed whether other individuals, including police officers who may have been involved or present at the time, are being investigated.

The police said Zakaria will subsequently be put before the court for the appropriate legal proceedings.

His arrest and detention do not amount to a determination of guilt, and the allegations against him remain subject to the judicial process.
