NPP regional election: Makafui Woanyah retains Volta NPP chairmanship

Makafui Kofi Woanyah has been re-elected Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after edging out Joseph Wallace Homenya in the party’s regional executive elections.

Provisional results show Woanyah secured 169 votes, while Homenya polled 148, giving the incumbent a 21-vote victory.

The contest had divided opinion within the party, with some members backing Woanyah for another term based on what they described as his contribution to the NPP’s growth and performance in the region.

Others had called for a change in leadership, arguing that the party needed a fresh approach to rebuild unity, attract new members, and improve its electoral prospects.

Woanyah’s re-election gives him another mandate to lead the party’s regional organisation as the NPP works to strengthen its structures and broaden its support base.

He is expected to work with the newly elected regional executives to mobilise the party’s grassroots and position the NPP for future electoral contests.
