Algeria secured a historic bronze medal at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 after beating hosts Morocco 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time in Rabat.
The result gives Algeria their first-ever podium finish in WAFCON history.
Morocco started strongly and nearly took the lead in the 17th minute when Ibtissam Jraidi’s first-time effort struck the crossbar.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock nine minutes later. Kautar Azraf showed excellent skill to beat her marker before finding the far corner with her left foot to make it 1-0.
Morocco continued to threaten, but Algeria returned from the break with greater purpose and began putting pressure on the hosts.
Algeria came close through Marine Dafeur and Lina Boussaha before finally finding the equaliser in the 83rd minute.
Melissa Bethi played a superb through ball to Boussaha, who calmly finished past the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
Neither side could find a winner before the final whistle, sending the match to a penalty shootout.
Algeria held their nerve from the spot to win 3-2, with Ines Belloumou converting the decisive penalty to secure the historic victory.
The result sees Algeria finish third and claim the bronze medal, while Morocco finish fourth after an impressive campaign on home soil.
