The newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Ahafo Region, Robert Sarfo-Mensah, says the party needs to be rebranded and restructured to regain its appeal ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to him, the party’s performance in the 2024 elections, where it secured only one of the region’s six parliamentary seats, is a clear indication that urgent steps are needed to rebuild its support base, particularly among the youth.
Robert Sarfo-Mensah made the remarks at Goaso after winning the NPP’s regional executive elections with 65 votes out of 157.
Speaking to Adom News, he said his immediate priority would be to reposition the party and make it more attractive to the people of the region.
He noted that the NPP previously held four of the six parliamentary seats in Ahafo but lost three in the 2024 elections in Asutifi North, Asunafo North and Tano South.
He attributed part of the party’s poor performance to divisions within its ranks ahead of the 2024 elections and pledged to work with the new executives to prevent a recurrence.
The newly elected chairman said rebuilding the party would require unity, effective organisation and a deliberate effort to reconnect with voters, especially young people.
Meanwhile, the retained Regional Secretary, Nana Antwi Eric, who secured 102 votes out of 157, said the party would work with candidates who contested and lost the regional executive elections to tap into their ideas and strengthen the party.
He said the NPP could not afford another defeat in 2028 and pledged to work towards reclaiming the three parliamentary seats lost in the region.
The newly elected executives are Robert Sarfo-Mensah as Chairman, Prof. Emmanuel Opoku Marfo as 1st Vice Chairman, Collins Osei Bonsu as 2nd Vice Chairman, Nana Antwi Eric as Secretary, Samuel Owusu Akoto as Deputy Secretary, Alfred Asiedu as Communication Officer, Bawa Issifu as Organiser, Obeng Ababio as Youth Organiser, Emelia Konadu as Women’s Organiser, Mutala Mohammed as Nasara Coordinator and Eugene Kusi Boakye as Treasurer.
