All About Nick Kyrgios’ Suspension, Jannik Sinner Controversy and Girlfriend Danai Stamati
After criticizing Jannik Sinner over his doping case, Nick Kyrgios now faces a similar suspension.

In news that has surprised the tennis world, Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended from playing, coaching, or attending any tennis tournament by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after testing positive for cocaine.
Kyrgios provided a drug sample while competing at the ATP 250 grass-court event in Mallorca, where the presence of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, was confirmed. His provisional suspension took effect on August 4, and Kyrgios chose not to contest the decision, instead accepting the sanction.
The suspension could last for up to four years. However, if Kyrgios can establish that the substance was taken out of competition, the ban could be reduced to three months. The punishment could then be reduced further to one month if he completes an approved drug rehabilitation program.

Kyrgios took to Instagram to issue an emotional apology to his fans and said he would step away from social media to focus on getting better. Since the suspension was announced, the Australian has also faced criticism from sections of the tennis community because of his previous stance on keeping the sport clean.
Nick Kyrgios’ Suspension: Why Are Fans Bringing up Jannik Sinner?
Kyrgios was particularly vocal when Jannik Sinner tested positive twice for trace amounts of clostebol in 2024. Sinner was eventually cleared of intentional fault, but Kyrgios questioned why the Italian received a three-month ban.
“Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah nice,” Kyrgios wrote on X at the time.

Now, with Kyrgios himself facing a suspension following his positive test for cocaine, some fans have pointed to what they see as an uncomfortable contrast between his previous comments and his current situation. Comments about the “irony” of the situation have circulated across X and Reddit.
With Kyrgios also previously considering retirement from professional tennis, questions now remain over whether he will return to the sport once his suspension is over. If he does, fans will be hoping to see one of the most entertaining personalities in tennis make another appearance on the court.
Who Is Nick Kyrgios’ Girlfriend Danai Stamati?
Amid what has been a difficult period professionally, Kyrgios appears to have found some stability in his personal life. The Australian is currently in a relationship with Danai Stamati.
Following his breakup with influencer and clothing entrepreneur Costeen Hatzi in March 2025, Kyrgios reportedly began seeing Stamati in January 2026. The couple kept their relationship relatively private before making it public on Instagram around Kyrgios’ 31st birthday.

Recently, Stamati was also spotted cheering for her boyfriend at the 2026 BOSS Open in Stuttgart, which marked Kyrgios’ return to competitive tennis after the Australian Open. He had been sidelined for five months due to knee and wrist complications.
Kyrgios has previously been quite open about his relationships, but his romance with Stamati has remained relatively low-key. Unlike some of his previous partners, Stamati does not appear to have a major presence in the influencer world. However, she was also spotted alongside Kyrgios during an interaction with intimate wellness brand Hello Nancy.

Multiple reports indicate that Stamati works at Metricon, a home-building company in Australia, and is based in Victoria, Melbourne. Some of the photos she has shared on Instagram have also shown her spending time with Kyrgios’ niece and nephew.
The couple also share Greek heritage, with Stamati originally from Nafpaktos in Greece. She is set to turn 24 in September.
Kyrgios’ mother, Nill, also follows Stamati on Instagram, another indication of the relationship’s growing connection with the Australian’s family.
While Kyrgios’ professional career has entered a difficult and uncertain period following his suspension, his personal life appears to be in a much more settled place. Whether that stability can eventually help him find his way back to the tennis court remains to be seen.
