Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi has rejected claims that the institution withheld financial information from the Auditor-General during the audit of its 2025 accounts.

Gyamfi was responding to concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who questioned GoldBod’s reported GHC5.44 billion overall surplus and suggested that the Auditor-General may not have had access to the full financial picture.

According to the Auditor-General’s report, GOLDBOD recorded an operational surplus of GHC909.7 million and an overall surplus of GHC5.44 billion for the 2025 financial year.

Speaking at the government’s accountability series on Wednesday, 19 August, Gyamfi said the Auditor-General had unrestricted access to GOLDBOD’s financial records and other relevant documents during the audit.

He challenged the media and critics to verify the claim with the Auditor-General, insisting that all documents requested by the audit team were provided and that queries raised in the management letter were satisfactorily addressed.

Gyamfi said the audit report contained no adverse findings against GOLDBOD including findings relating to alleged losses, procurement breaches or violations of the Public Financial Management Act.

“They now claim that the Auditor-General did not have access to the full picture concerning the operations of GoldBod. This position betrays either a lack of understanding of how an external audit is conducted, or a deliberate determination to undermine yet another independent state institution when its findings do not suit their narratives,” he said.

He described the suggestion that GOLDBOD failed to make full disclosures as an attempt to undermine the credibility of the Auditor-General’s work.

Gyamfi urged critics to rely on the findings contained in the official audit report when assessing GOLDBOD’s financial performance.
