Driver arrested over suspected cocaine consignment at Accra airport

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a delivery driver following the interception of a consignment suspected to contain cocaine at the Accra International Airport.

The arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into how the package was brought to the airport and whether other individuals were involved.

The suspect is being held by NACOC as investigators work to establish the source and intended destination of the consignment.

Authorities are also examining the possibility that the suspect could be linked to a wider network involved in the movement of illicit drugs.

The quantity intercepted has not been officially disclosed, while laboratory testing is expected to determine the exact composition of the substance.

The operation comes as NACOC and other security agencies step up efforts to prevent Ghana from being used as a transit route for narcotics.

Investigations are continuing, with NACOC expected to release further information as the case develops.
