Dak Prescott wrapped up the 2023 season as the NFL MVP runner-up, finishing the campaign with 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and 69.5% completion percentage. This gave Prescott leverage when it came to his upcoming contract negotiations. Since his previous contract included a no-trade and no-tag provision, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys were under pressure to make a long-term decision on him.
Despite the standoff during the offseason in 2024, Jones finally agreed to give Prescott a four-year, $240 millionextension, securing the services of this elite quarterback long-term. The move has continued to pay dividends as Prescott was one of the Cowboys’ standout players during the 2025 NFL season, finishing the season with 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Offense can win you games, but defenses win you championships, and that’s exactly what the Cowboys lacked during the 2025 NFL season. The defense allowed 511 points, the most in the NFL. But Jones has been super active in addressing those issues and trying to help Prescott win that elusive Super Bowl title.
The Cowboys acquired the likes of Rashan Gary and Quinnen Williams after trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. Jones also recently signed two-time Super Bowl Champion Von Miller to the roster and gave Williams a three year, $105.9 contract extension.
The aggressiveness of Jones during the last few months has impressed Prescott. Addressing reporters during the Cowboys’ training camp, Prescott said, “I can’t give enough credit, honestly, to [Schottenheimer] and the Joneses.

“I don’t think I’d be saying the goals and saying them as confidently and trying to manifest without the things that they’ve done, the decisions they’ve made, the signings they have [made], the extensions they’ve given to certain guys. They understand what we’re trying to do and the urgency in it. I think it’s as much as Jerry ever has in my tenure here,” he added.
The Cowboys defeated the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 in their preseason opener and will face the Arizona Cardinals in their second preseason game.
