Eagles Linked to Reunion With Former Pass Rusher Haason Reddick
Bleacher Report floated a potential reunion between the Eagles and free agent Haason Reddick, a low-cost pass-rush addition while Jonathan Greenard heals up.
Howie Roseman is always on the hunt to improve the Philadelphia Eagles’ already talented roster. Bleacher Report identified the Eagles as a potential landing spot for free agent Haason Reddick, a possible reunion for the edge rusher and his former team.
Reddick’s original stint in Philadelphia started in 2022, signing a three-year, $45 million contract. Reddick had 16 sacks in his first season with the Eagles, tied for the fourth-most in a single season by an Eagle. He additionally led the NFL in forced fumbles, and his 3.5 in the Eagles’ postseason run to the Super Bowl was the most in franchise history for a single postseason. Reddick earned a second-team All-Pro nod. The following season, Reddick’s 11 sacks once again led the team.
After the two Pro Bowl seasons, Reddick went to the front office looking for a new contract with a hefty pay raise. The Eagles were unwilling to give him the new deal, so Reddick was traded to the New York Jets. After the dispute finally ended in New York, he had an underwhelming season, only recording one sack over 10 games.
He still got a solid payday in the offseason, signing a one-year, $14 million contract with $12 million guaranteed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He didn’t live up to the price tag, contributing only 2.5 sacks.
Why the Eagles need depth now
The potential signing would come as a precautionary measure with the concerns of when Jonathan Greenard will return. Philadelphia traded for Greenard this offseason, but a pectoral strain that occurred during preseason lifting landed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Vic Fangio told reporters he is not confident Greenard will be ready by Week 1.
“I don’t know when Greenard will be back,” Fangio said. “That injury he got in our weight room is going to take some time to heal.”
If Greenard does take an extended period to return, increased pressure will be on players lower in the rotation, such as A.J. Epenesa, who Fangio has been impressed with.
“He’s been doing good, and he played good in the preseason game,” Fangio said.
Reddick would not play a major role with the Eagles, but the signing would solidify the depth of the edge room.
