The newly-elected Central Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Joseph Kobina Essibu, has outlined five pillars to deliver the region to the party in the 2028 polls.

The first task, he said was reconciliation—not merely among candidates, but among their supporters, and that every former opponent would surely be given a place in the rebuilding process with every constituency being made to feel represented.

“Every former grievance will be considered a lesson rather than a weapon.

We will not carry the wounds of our internal contest into the 2028 general election.

We will convert competition into collaboration, differences into diversity, and unity into electoral strength,” he said.

He was speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic after paying a courtesy call on the 2028 flag bearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, last Tuesday.

He used the occasion to introduce the new regional executive to the flagbearer.

Dr Essibu said the executive would return the party in the region to the grassroots before the start of campaigning.

He said the biggest strategic mistake would be to wait until 2028 before starting to campaign, and that “2028 must be won constituency by constituency, branch by branch, polling station by polling station—and it must begin now”

The new executive, Dr Essibu said, would establish a Central Region Grassroots Recovery Programme, and that every constituency should know its polling stations, branch strength, membership, weak areas, swing communities, youth population, women's groups, floating voters, historical voting patterns and organisational weaknesses.

Dr Essibu said the executive would fight for seats, not merely for votes and “this is one of the strongest commitments we are making to you, our incoming president.”

“The objective cannot simply be Increase the NPP's percentage. It must be win parliamentary seats.

In the 2024 polls, the party won only four of Central Region's 23 parliamentary seats.

Dr Essibu said the executive would build a data-driven communication and persuasion machine.

The 2028 campaign, he said, would not be fought primarily through slogans, and that it would be fought through research, evidence, listening and disciplined communication.

The regional communication directorate, he said, would work with constituency communicators to establish a permanent Central Region political research and communications war room, and that the responsibilities would include tracking voter sentiments, constituency research, monitoring issues, detection of misinformation and listening before speaking.

Dr Essibu said the executive would reconcile the party, rebuild the grassroots, organise every constituency, strengthen every polling station and communicate with evidence and discipline.

“Ware not promising you a miracle.

We are promising you a method. We are not promising you victory by wishful thinking.

We are promising you victory through organisation.

We are not asking the Central Region to be given to us.

We are going to earn it—community by community, constituency by constituency, polling station by polling station,” he said.
