Blue Jays Announce Andres Gimenez Update After Removal From Lineup
The Toronto Blue Jays announced an update on infielder Andres Gimenez after he was removed from the lineup.
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Andres Gimenez has been one of the most valuable defensive players in baseball throughout his seven-year career. Gimenez debuted for the New York Mets before getting dealt to the Cleveland Guardians ahead of the 2021 season.
He shined in Cleveland, even earning an All-Star selection in 2022, before being dealt to the Blue Jays ahead of the 2025 season to improve their defense. While he has done just that, his bat is still not as solid as it once was.
Across 123 games this year the 27-year-old has posted a .240 batting average, .284 on-base percentage and .640 OPS, though he has provided some pop with eight home runs and 49 RBIs.
During Thursday’s series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays, Gimenez suffered a right hamstring injury while running out a ground ball to first base. He was lifted from the game by manager John Schneider and walked off in discomfort with trainers.

Fortunately, after the game Schneider had a positive update on Gimenez’s condition, revealing that his exit was precautionary and that he would not need to undergo an MRI, downplaying the severity considerably.
However, ahead of Friday’s series opener against the New York Yankees, Gimenez still found himself out of the lineup.
Instead, Ernie Clement drew the start at shortstop with Charles McAdoo taking over the vacated spot at second base. Schneider provided another update on Gimenez before the game.
“Andres Gimenez is feeling better Friday after tweaking his right hamstring on Thursday vs Rays. Issue isn’t severe enough for an MRI. He’s out of the starting lineup on Friday but isn’t expected to need an IL stint,” reported Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.

He’s out of the starting lineup on Friday but isn’t expected to need an IL stint.
Gimenez will look to return for Saturday’s game against the Yankees. It is unclear if he will be available off the bench as a defensive replacement Friday, but Toronto will at least start without him in the lineup.
