The Indiana Fever struggled mightily against the Dallas Wings on Tuesday and ended up losing 91-85. Only Kelsey Mitchell scored more than 20 points for the team, as she finished with 37 points on 9-of-18 shooting.

Caitlin Clark recorded only 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting, while Aliyah Boston tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.

The Wings, for their part, saw Arike Ogunbowale score 32 points on 11-of-22 shooting. Jessica Shepard added 26 points and eight rebounds, making life more difficult for the Fever.

While a lot went wrong for the Fever on both offense and defense, guard Lexie Hull expressed her belief that it was their “energy” and “toughness” that were lacking in the contest.

Hull, who recorded nine points in 25 minutes of action, pointed out that the Wings simply wanted it more than they did.

“I think more energy and toughness,” Hull said when asked what the Fever needed down the stretch of the game.

“I think we talked about it in the locker room at half[time] and then we talked about it again at the end of the game. They’re playing to make the playoffs. They came in with a lot of energy, a lot of grit. I think at the end of the day they just wanted it more. They were more desperate for the win. So for us, I think it’s just we needed more of that. We needed to be the team that wanted it more. and I don’t think that we were today.”

For what it’s worth, head coach Stephanie White agreed with Hull’s sentiment, noting that the Wings “were desperate.” She acknowledged that the Fever were also desperate, it’s just that they didn’t play like one.

Indiana will have a chance to bounce back when they play the New York Liberty on Saturday. The team dropped to the No. 4 spot in the WNBA standings with a 24-13 record following the loss.
