The 24-hour market initiative has officially taken off in Bimbila in the Northern Region, following a sod-cutting ceremony for a modern market complex aimed at transforming the local economy.
The project is expected to serve as a major boost to commercial activities in the Nanumba North Municipality, creating a platform for businesses to operate beyond traditional hours and increasing economic productivity in the area.
The ceremony was performed by Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
The Minister described the project as a flagship intervention under the government’s 24-hour economy policy, designed to stimulate inclusive growth and expand opportunities for traders, artisans, and entrepreneurs in the municipality.
According to the Minister, the market complex will be equipped with key facilities such as car parks, a school, a clinic, and a police station, making it a comprehensive economic hub.
He stressed that the initiative will not only improve trading conditions but also enhance safety, accessibility, and service delivery within the market space.
He further urged the contractor to ensure the timely delivery of the project without compromising on quality standards.
The Municipal Chief Executive Abdul Somed Hamza expressed appreciation to the government for prioritising the needs of the municipality, noting that the project will significantly improve livelihoods in the area.
He added that the introduction of a 24-hour market system will open up new economic opportunities, particularly for the youth and women, while positioning Bimbila as a vibrant commercial centre capable of supporting sustained economic growth.
