After years of struggling with weak and unreliable electricity, residents of Kyeremasu in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region can finally look forward to stable and consistent power, following a decisive intervention by thePublic Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC).

In partnership with the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), PURC’s Bono Regional Office facilitated the installation of a 100 KVA transformer and the replacement of 10 deteriorated electricity poles addressing long-standing low-voltage challenges that have disrupted daily life, hindered local businesses, and stifled economic activity.

The intervention followed sustained engagement with the community, during which the Assembly Member for the Kyeremasu Atanofi Electoral Area, Khadija Adjei, formally submitted a complaint to the Commission, highlighting the prolonged hardship residents had endured.

“For years, our community has struggled with low voltage, which affected businesses, households, and daily life. The installation of this transformer and replacement of the old poles comes at the right time and will significantly improve living conditions and boost local economic activity,” Madam Adjei said.

Following the complaint, PURC conducted a technical assessment and collaborated closely with NEDCo to ensure that the transformer would meet the growing electricity demand in the area.

The replacement of the 10 deteriorated poles further strengthened the safety and reliability of the local power distribution network.

The Bono Regional Manager of PURC, Patrick Antwi, used the occasion to remind residents of the importance of responsible electricity usage.

“PURC is committed to protecting consumers and ensuring quality service delivery. We urge customers to pay their bills promptly and avoid illegal connections, which contribute to power losses and undermine the system,” he said.

For residents, the intervention represents more than just an upgrade it signals the end of years of frustration and the beginning of renewed opportunity for households and small businesses alike.

Many residents expressed joy and relief, noting that the previous low-voltage situation had been a major barrier to economic growth and daily convenience.

With the 100 KVA transformer now operational and the old poles replaced, Kyeremasu is poised to enjoy a more reliable power supply, revitalised economic activity, and strengthened confidence in responsive governance and regulatory oversight.
