Final-year students of Chereponi Senior High School in the North East Region have staged a protest over what they describe as poor feeding conditions and alleged mismanagement by school authorities.

The students accused the headmaster and his assistant of corruption, alleging that food items meant for students are being diverted for personal use. According to them, the quantity and quality of food served in the school have been inadequate for a long time, forcing them to voice out their frustrations.

The protesting students also raised concerns about an alleged GH₵200 levy collected from parents by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to support candidates during their examination period. They claimed that despite writing nearly three examination papers, they had not received any form of support and are therefore demanding a refund of the money collected.

Speaking to the media, one of the students said, “The food they serve us is very bad. We are tired. Again, we cannot be making payments and not be seeing the benefits.”

The Chereponi District Director of Education, Daniel Nii Adjetey, visited the school after one of the examination papers to engage the students and appeal for calm. He assured them that their grievances would be investigated and addressed.

According to him, many of the complaints were administrative issues linked to agreements made by the PTA concerning intervention classes and student support during examinations. However, he suggested that some of the concerns may have been influenced by external persons.

Meanwhile, the assistant headmaster denied the allegations, insisting that the school administration does not manage PTA funds.

He also maintained that the school has enough food supplies to cater for students.
Education authorities say engagements with stakeholders are ongoing to restore calm and resolve the issues raised by the students.
