Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Mohammed Amin Adam, has criticised the Mahama government’s 24-hour economy policy, saying the secretariat overseeing the programme is effectively inactive due to funding constraints.

In a Facebook post, the former minister said the initiative, which aims to expand economic activity beyond traditional working hours, is being undermined by delays in the release of budgeted funds.

He claimed the secretariat has struggled to operate despite an allocation of GH¢110 million in the 2026 budget.

“The 24H Economy Secretariat is in coma as government has not been releasing funds from the GHS110 million allocated to it this year,” he said.

He further described the policy as “dead on arrival” and criticised its design, calling it a “scam”.

Amin Adam contrasted the current policy with digitalisation reforms implemented under the previous NPP administration led by former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

He cited initiatives including the digitisation of passport applications, port services, driver and vehicle licensing systems, motor insurance verification, and the Ghana.Gov payment platform.

He also referenced the integration of national databases across institutions such as the Ghana Revenue Authority, SSNIT, NHIS, and the National Identification Authority.

Amin Adam said a future NPP government would continue expanding digital public services to improve efficiency and support private sector growth.
