Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman Freddy Blay has pledged his support for Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in his bid for the party’s national chairmanship position.

Blay expressed his backing during a private meeting at his residence, according to a statement from the Wuntumi campaign team.

He described his endorsement as “sincere” and said he would support Wontumi “every step of the way,” while commending the campaign team assembled around him.

The former NPP chairman also offered words of encouragement regarding Wontumi’s ongoing legal challenges, praying for “strength, endurance and perseverance.”

“This is the time for Chairman Wontumi. This is his moment,” Blay was quoted as saying.

The two also discussed campaign strategy, with Blay identifying key regions including Greater Accra and the Eastern Region as critical to securing support.

The endorsement marks a notable show of backing from a senior party figure as Wontumi positions himself in the contest for the party’s national leadership.

The New Patriotic Party, is expected to hold internal elections ahead of the next general election cycle.
