Ghana and Jamaica have renewed efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation following a high-level meeting held in Accra under the framework of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC).

The Senior Officials Meeting of the 3rd Session of the Ghana-Jamaica PJCC took place on Monday, 25 May 2026, as part of ongoing engagements aimed at strengthening diplomatic, cultural, and economic relations between the two countries.

The meeting was co-chaired by Ghana’s Coordinating Director for Political and Economic Affairs, Ambassador Harold Adlai Agyeman, and Jamaica’s Undersecretary for Bilateral, Regional, and Hemispheric Affairs, Ambassador Symone Betton Nayo.

Addressing the meeting, Ambassador Agyeman underscored the historical and ancestral connection between Ghana and Jamaica, saying the relationship between both countries continues to thrive on shared heritage and cultural identity.

He noted that initiatives such as the Year of Return and the Black Star Experience have played an important role in deepening people-to-people relations and expanding cultural exchange between the two countries.

According to him, the reconvening of the PJCC presents another opportunity for both countries to strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest and maximise the potential of their long-standing relations.

Ambassador Agyeman also referenced the Visa Waiver Agreement signed in June 2019, describing it as a significant step toward improving movement and interaction between citizens of Ghana and Jamaica.

He further called for stronger collaboration between businesses in both countries to help drive economic growth and sustainable development.

On her part, Ambassador Nayo said the meeting reflects the commitment of both governments to strengthening ties rooted in mutual respect, democratic values and shared cultural heritage.

She recalled that diplomatic relations between Ghana and Jamaica date back to 1958 and stressed the importance of sustaining cooperation through structured engagements such as the PJCC.

Discussions during the meeting focused on several areas of mutual interest, including culture, trade, social and humanitarian cooperation, political and legal affairs, as well as security collaboration.
