The President of the Heralds of Islamic Message, Sheikh Ayub Ofosuhene Asare, has urged Muslims to embrace the deeper spiritual meaning of Eid al-Adha, stressing that the festival is rooted in sacrifice, integrity, and devotion—not merely the slaughtering of animals.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (27 May) ahead of the Islamic festival, Asare said Eid commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Abraham, who was prepared to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

“It shows our trust and belief in the Almighty God… we should be selfless and prepared to sacrifice for every good cause,” he said.

He explained that the willingness of both Abraham and his son to submit to God’s command offers a timeless lesson in obedience and moral discipline.

According to Asare, modern interpretations of sacrifice extend beyond ritual practices to everyday responsibilities, including raising children, supporting communities, and upholding ethical conduct.

“Sacrificing means giving your all in a good cause… doing what is right for your family, your nation, and your community,” he said.

He emphasised that Islam prioritises sincerity over symbolism, noting that the physical act of sacrifice holds little value without genuine devotion.

“The blood and the meat do not reach God. It is our sincerity and readiness to obey Him that matters,” he added.

As Ghanaian Muslims prepare for the festival, Asare called for a renewed focus on moral values, urging believers to avoid corruption, dishonesty, and violence.

He said adherence to Islamic principles ultimately benefits both individuals and society, reinforcing peace, discipline, and spiritual growth.
