The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) says it has completed an extensive assessment of a major fire disaster that destroyed a commercial complex in Nyankomasi Ahenkro in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

In a statement posted on social media, NADMO said the blaze razed the entire Amo Plaza building, which housed supermarkets, offices, stores and Bohyeba FM, a radio station owned by Assin South Member of Parliament Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.

The agency said officials from the Assin South office conducted a detailed needs assessment in accordance with its mandate under the National Disaster Management Organisation Act, 2016 (Act 927).

According to NADMO, a report on the disaster has been submitted through the Central Regional office to the organisation’s Director-General for further action.

The agency did not immediately provide details on the cause of the fire, the estimated value of property destroyed or whether there were any casualties.

NADMO appealed to individuals, organisations and development partners willing to assist victims of the disaster to channel support through the Central Regional Coordinating Council.

“Anyone or any institution willing to support the victims or willing to partner us in providing the necessary relief and humanitarian assistance are urged to do so,” the organisation said.

The fire destroyed businesses operating within the commercial facility and disrupted the operations of Bohyeba FM, one of the media outlets serving communities in the area.
