British actor Idris Elba has been knighted by King Charles III in recognition of his services to young people.

The investiture ceremony took place at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, 2 June 2926, formally conferring the title “Sir” on the 53-year-old actor, who was recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list for his contributions to youth development and community empowerment. (ITVX)

Elba, best known for his roles in Luther, The Wire and several Hollywood blockbuster films, was honoured for his work supporting young people through educational and community-based initiatives. (ITVX)

A key part of that work has been the Elba Hope Foundation, which he co-founded with his wife, Sabrina Elba, in 2022. The foundation focuses on youth advocacy, education, community empowerment and sustainable development. (ITVX)

The actor has previously credited the King’s Trust, formerly known as the Prince’s Trust, with helping launch his career after he received a grant at age 18 to attend the National Youth Music Theatre. He now serves as a goodwill ambassador for the organisation. (ITVX)
