The Eastern Region aims to plant 1,200,000 tree seedlings as part of the Tree for Life Ghana Day initiative to compliment the 30 million expected nationwide.

The program which is starting on the 5 of June is expected to end at the end of June 2026 hopes to plant mahogany, sapele, and ofram, among others.

The Tree for Life initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to restore degraded lands and forest reserves to their original state.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Manager of the Forest Services Division of the Forestry Commission Francis Brobbey speaking to Asaase radio said the commission has enough economic trees, such as mango, coconut, and avocado and other ornamental trees and called on the general public to patronise the seedlings.

“He said the theme for this year Forest and Economics “aims to highlight the importance of trees in lives of Ghanaians.

“Timber men ,those in commercial tree planting,those burning charcoal and the rest, tree planting provide a lot of varied income and we must see it an avenue for generating income for ourselves”he said.

He said the tree planting exercise should not be an annual ritual but a renewed effort, a collective decision that without trees man cannot survive.

Mr Brobbey called on those in the mining areas to reclaim the forest after their mining activities for the good of mankind.

He said trees contribute significantly to the well-being of humans and urged people to cultivate the habit of planting trees regularly to help save lives.

“We need everybody on board to plant a tree in their areas to green Ghana once again,” he added.
