Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has defended her recent award, pointing to her administration’s efforts in sanitation, flood control, and urban management as justification for the recognition.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (8 June), Ocloo said her work across multiple sectors in the capital underpinned the honour.

“I have tackled sanitation, chieftaincy disputes, street lighting, and boundary issues within the Greater Accra Region,” she said. “If I want to break it down, we may not leave the studio.”

She also highlighted her response to flooding, including demolition exercises in high-risk zones such as Ramsar sites, despite public backlash.

“You can see that I have a lot of people that hate me because of those demolition exercises,” she said, adding that such measures were necessary to protect lives and property.

Ocloo said her administration had intensified monitoring ofmetropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs), including unannounced inspections to enforce sanitation standards.

However, she acknowledged that significant challenges remain.

“I cannot say I’m happy because we still have a lot of things to do,” she said, pointing to persistent waste management issues and public non-compliance with sanitation rules.

The minister emphasised that enforcing bylaws and improving public attitudes would be critical to achieving long-term improvements in the capital.
