The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he has not received any official resignation letter from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, despite the Portuguese coach announcing on social media that he was leaving his position.

Queiroz, 73, took charge of the Ghana national team on a short-term contract after replacing Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Following the Black Stars’ elimination from the tournament, the experienced coach posted a message indicating that he was departing his role “with pride.”

However, speaking in an interview with Joy News, Kofi Adams insisted that the government and football authorities would only recognise formal communication regarding the coach’s future.

“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resign on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” the Minister said.

The Sports Minister explained that Queiroz is still expected to submit a detailed technical report on his brief tenure, covering the team’s preparations, performances, challenges, and other key issues surrounding the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign.

“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he said.

According to Adams, the report will help identify both technical and structural challenges affecting the national team and guide future decisions aimed at rebuilding the Black Stars.

The Minister also backed Queiroz’s comments that Ghana’s football revival requires attention beyond on-field performances, stressing the importance of addressing administrative and structural concerns.

“And he’s right when he says it’s not just going to be on the pitch. There are off-pitch issues, and there are on-pitch issues also. I’m happy he has stated it clearly,” he said.

The Black Stars exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, ending their first appearance in the tournament’s knockout stage since 2010.

Despite making progress by reaching the last 32, Ghana’s campaign came to an early conclusion, with the four-time African champions now turning their attention to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
