The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a Chief Inspector over allegations that he owns unauthorized wooden structures at Asafo BB in Kumasi and rents them to commercial sex workers, police said on Friday.

The command said it was treating the allegations seriously but did not disclose the identity of the officer or say when the investigation began.

In a statement dated 10 July, the Police Public Affairs Unit said the officer was accused of owning wooden structures at Asafo BB, a busy commercial and transport hub in Kumasi, and leasing them to commercial sex workers.

The statement did not indicate whether the structures were officially linked to the officer or specify any potential disciplinary or criminal offences being considered.

“The Command takes the allegations seriously and wishes to assure the public that further developments following the investigations will be communicated,” the statement signed by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, said.

The police did not provide a timeline for completing the investigation or say whether the Chief Inspector had been suspended or reassigned pending the outcome.

The investigation comes as the Ghana Police Service continues efforts to enforce professional standards within its ranks.
