New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Dennis Miracles Aboagye is being investigated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations of conspiracy, causing financial loss to the state and money laundering involving GH¢55 million.

Aboagye, former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation, was arrested on Sunday alongside Gerald Appiah, the former Accountant of IMCCoD, EOCO said in a statement Monday.

The probe stems from a forensic audit and petition submitted by the current IMCCoD Executive Secretary covering the period 1 August 2022 to 2 February 2025, the anti-graft body said.

EOCO said the two are being investigated for “conspiracy to steal and stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the State, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences, and money laundering.”

According to EOCO, Mr Aboagye was picked up at Accra International Airport on Saturday night after officers executed a Stop Order placed on him a week earlier.

He was handed over to EOCO on Sunday morning and later accompanied investigators on a search.

EOCO said Mr Appiah had “voluntarily begun refunding” funds connected to the crimes under investigation.

The office stressed that the recoveries “do not and by themselves conclude the investigative process neither does it absolve any suspect of any crime.”

Both suspects will be granted bail “in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Ghana” while investigations continue, EOCO added.

The office said it remained committed to investigating economic and organised crime “professionally, impartially and strictly within the law” and to recovering public assets.

IMCCoD is the government body responsible for coordinating decentralisation policy across Ghana’s ministries, departments and agencies.
