The newly elected executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency were sworn into office on Tuesday (14 July), after a constituency election marred by violence that led to the arrest of seven people, including party activist Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.

Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, administered the oath of office to the 10-member executive team led by newly elected constituency chairman Kwaku Ofosu.

The swearing-in followed Sunday’s polls, which resumed under tight security after a confrontation disrupted voting. Police arrested seven people during the incident before order was restored and the election concluded.

Addressing party members after taking office, Ofosu pledged to unite the constituency and rebuild the party ahead of the next general election.

“Our focus is unity, hard work and strengthening the party from the polling station level. We will work tirelessly to ensure the NPP returns to power in 2028,” he said.

As your leader I will work tirelessly to ensure that our flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia wins the 2028 election and I will need your support to ensure this vision is realized, Ofosu added.

Ofosu also urged party supporters to put the disputed election behind them and work together to advance the party’s electoral fortunes.

He was elected chairman after polling 893 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Daniel Gyimah, who secured 255 votes. Five ballots were rejected.

Chairman Wontumi congratulated the new executives and urged them to remain focused on grassroots mobilisation and party unity, saying a strong constituency organisation would be key to the NPP’s efforts to recapture power in the 2028 general election.
