Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has dismissed reports suggesting that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has resigned from his position.
Speculation about the Portuguese coach’s future intensified after a social media post from the 73-year-old was widely interpreted as a farewell message following Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, Queiroz later clarified in a viral video interview that the post was not an announcement of his resignation but rather a message of appreciation to the Ghana Football Association and the country’s football authorities for giving him the opportunity to lead the national team.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Oduro Sarfo insisted that Queiroz remains the head coach of the Black Stars and continues to be in charge of the team.
He dismissed the reports as speculation, adding that there has been no official communication from the coach or the GFA regarding any decision to end his tenure.
“Carlos Queiroz has not resigned. He is still the head coach of the Black Stars,” Oduro Sarfo stated.
According to the GFA Executive Council member, Queiroz initially signed a short-term contract after replacing Otto Addo in April ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his tenure with the senior national team has not come to an end.
Queiroz made an immediate impact, leading Ghana to the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since the 2010 tournament.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw in their second Group L fixture.
Although Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group game, they progressed to the Round of 32 as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
Ghana’s World Cup journey eventually ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia, with Jhon Arias scoring the only goal of the match.
Despite the speculation surrounding his future, the latest comments from Oduro Sarfo indicate that Queiroz remains at the helm of the Black Stars as discussions over his long-term future continue.
