Chairman-elect for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Afigya Sekyere East, Kwaku Ofosu, has urged the party’s national and regional leadership to swiftly resolve the dispute over recently annulled constituency elections, warning that prolonged internal divisions could undermine preparations for the 2028 general election.

Speaking on theAsaase Breakfast Show on Friday (17 July), Ofosu said the party’s focus should be on rebuilding after the 2024 election defeat and positioning its 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for victory.

“The main agenda is to make sureDr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the next president in 2028. This back-and-forth between the national executives and the regional executives must be resolved as soon as possible,” he said.

His comments follow a decision by the NPP National Steering Committee to annul constituency executive elections in some constituencies, including Afigya Sekyere East, over alleged breaches of party directives.

Ofosu said the dispute should not distract the party from its broader electoral objectives.

“We voted for the national and regional executives because we believe they are competent. They should come together, resolve this issue and allow us to move on,” he said.

He noted that grassroots enthusiasm during the constituency elections demonstrated the party’s readiness to reorganise ahead of the next general election.

According to him, more than 90% of delegates turned out to vote in Afigya Sekyere East, reflecting renewed commitment among party members.

“The grassroots have mobilised already. The leadership must also be energised towards the 2028 agenda,” he added.
