The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has closed several food service establishments along Oxford Street in Osu for operating without the mandatoryFood Hygiene Permit Certificate.

The enforcement exercise, conducted on Thursday, 16 July, forms part of the FDA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with food safety regulations and safeguard public health.

In a statement, the authority said inspections revealed that the affected establishments were operating without the legally required Food Hygiene Permit Certificate, which all food businesses must obtain before serving the public.

“The affected establishments will remain closed until they obtain the required Food Hygiene Permit Certificate,” the FDA said.

The authority did not disclose the number or names of the affected businesses.

The FDA said the exercise forms part of routine regulatory inspections aimed at ensuring food sold to the public is prepared and served under hygienic conditions.

It urged operators of food businesses across the country to regularise their operations by obtaining the mandatory permit to avoid sanctions.

“The FDA once again reminds all food businesses to regularise their operations by obtaining the mandatory Food Hygiene Permit to avoid closure and fines,” the statement added.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing food safety standards and said it would continue monitoring food establishments to ensure compliance with the country’s public health regulations.
