Police have arrested a 19-year-old robbery suspect following a swift response by a night patrol team at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, identified as Ahmed Mustapha, was arrested in the early hours of Monday, July 21, after he allegedly attacked and robbed a man of his mobile phone.

According to a police statement, the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team was on routine patrol at about 12:20 a.m. when officers received information that a male victim had been robbed and left unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.

Upon arriving at the scene, police said the suspect fled after spotting the officers and hid in an uncompleted building. He was pursued and arrested.

A search conducted on him led to the recovery of the complainant’s mobile phone and a machete believed to have been used during the attack. The items have since been retained as exhibits.

The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand. He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Police said officers visited the victim at about 5:30 a.m. the same day and found that he had regained consciousness. He is reported to be in stable condition and remains under medical observation.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
