The funeral of Apostle Kwadwo Safo is proceeding as scheduled despite an ongoing family dispute over the implementation of his final wishes, spokesperson for Sarah Adwoa Safo,Seth Kofi Osei Kissi, has said.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Showon Thursday (30 July), Osei Kissi dismissed claims that the burial had been suspended pending court action, insisting that funeral activities were already underway.

“According to Adwoa and their siblings, the funeral is coming on this morning,” he said.

“As I’m talking to you now, the place is full of people from all walks of life. The majority of the church members from all corners of the nation are here, including people from South Africa, chiefs, imams and other invited guests. The funeral is fully coming on and everything is on its way.”

His comments come after reports that some members of the Kantanka family had sought to halt the burial, arguing that the late Apostle’s final wishes, as expressed in his will, had not been honoured.

Asked whether he was aware of any court injunction preventing the burial, Osei Kissi said he had not been informed of any such order.

“According to Adwoa, she has not informed me about any injunction and she has not shown me any document of that sort, so I cannot speak to anything called an injunction,” he said.

“I have not seen it and I have not been told of it by her.”

The spokesperson also rejected suggestions that Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s will had been disregarded, saying legal representatives had already addressed issues relating to the estate and that any remaining disputes could be resolved after the funeral.

“There is no truth or substance in that. The lawyers have come out to explain everything. We need to finish the funeral, find a resting place for the old man and if there is any issue, we can carry on with it,” he said.

Osei Kissi appealed to the public to attend the funeral peacefully and pay their final respects to the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

He described Apostle Kwadwo Safo as a man who devoted his life to helping others through education and other social interventions.

He also assured mourners that adequate security arrangements had been put in place at the funeral grounds.

“Everything on the ground is secure. Everybody is protected and nobody is going to harm anybody,” he said, adding that anyone attending with the intention of causing disturbances should abandon such plans before entering the venue.

The funeral comes amid a high-profile family disagreement over the late Apostle’s estate and burial arrangements, with the legal dispute expected to continue even after the burial rites conclude.
