Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu says his team is determined to secure a much-needed victory when they face Burkina Faso in the ongoing WAFU B U-20 Championship.

Ghana will battle their West African neighbours on Thursday at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, in their second Group B fixture.

The Black Satellites suffered a disappointing start to their campaign after losing 4-2 to Nigeria in their opening match, leaving them needing a positive result to revive their qualification hopes.

Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Konadu admitted that the team is eager to win but warned his players against allowing desperation to affect their tactical approach.

“We are anxious to win the game, but that shouldn’t lead us to throw everything away. We have to manage the game depending on how it unfolds. Obviously, we have to be more aggressive because we want to carry the day,” he said.

The former Asante Kotoko coach also reflected on the defensive mistakes that contributed to Ghana’s defeat against Nigeria, including the penalty conceded during the match.

Konadu said the technical team has worked with the players to address those lapses ahead of the Burkina Faso clash.

“We’ve spoken to the players and done some work, which we’ll finish today before the Burkina game. Giving away a penalty is never easy for a defender because they’re also doing a job for the team.

“We’ve discussed what to do and what not to do in certain areas of the pitch. Hopefully, tomorrow they won’t repeat those mistakes,” he added.

The Black Satellites need a positive result against Burkina Faso to boost their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.

Kick-off for the encounter is scheduled for 18:00 GMT.
