TheBank of Ghana (BoG) says it will continue to protect the value of the cedi and keep inflation under control as it seeks to sustain Ghana’s economic recovery.
Governor of the BoG,Dr Johnson Asiama, said the central bank would remain cautious despite improvements in key economic indicators, citing persistent global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices.
He made the remarks at a stakeholder engagement in Sunyani in the Bono Region.
Dr Asiama said the BoG’s priority was to maintain a stable economic environment that would allow businesses to plan, invest and grow with confidence.
“The progress we have made is encouraging, but we must not become complacent. The global economy remains uncertain, and events beyond our borders can still affect us,” he said.
“That is why the Bank of Ghana will continue to take decisions that protect the value of the cedi, keep inflation low, preserve financial stability and support sustainable economic growth.”
The engagement brought together representatives of the business community, the Association of Bankers, the Association of Ghana Industries, the Ghana Union of Traders Association, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as heads of community banks, forex bureaus and microfinance institutions.
Dr Asiama said Ghana’s key economic indicators were showing signs of improvement, but external risks could still put pressure on prices and the local currency.
He said the current 14% policy rate provided room for the central bank to continue controlling inflation while supporting businesses, investment and economic growth.
The Governor also assured stakeholders that the BoG remained committed to maintaining an orderly and well-functioning foreign exchange market.
He further reiterated his commitment to improving transparency and openness at the central bank.
“Our goal is simple – to create an economic environment where businesses can grow with confidence, households can plan for the future, and every Ghanaian can share in the benefits of a stable and growing economy,” Dr Asiama said.
