Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has called for an inclusive digital economy that enables all Ghanaians to benefit from the opportunities created by e-commerce and digital trade.
She said persons with disabilities, women entrepreneurs, rural businesses and young traders must be included in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
The minister made the call in a speech read on her behalf at a capacity-building workshop on Inclusive E-Commerce and Digital Trade held in Accra on Tuesday, 11 August, 2026.
She said Ghana’s digital economy should not benefit only people with reliable internet access, digital devices, urban infrastructure or advanced digital skills.
Ofosu-Adjare said e-commerce was increasingly becoming an important part of modern trade, making it necessary for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, farmers, entrepreneurs and traders to build their capacity to operate online.
She noted that government had partnered with UN Trade and Development, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, UNDP and UNCDF under the Joint SDG Fund to develop Ghana’s National E-Commerce Strategy over the past two years.
The strategy provides a roadmap for strengthening the country’s digital trade environment and increasing participation in online commerce.
At the workshop, Martine Julsaint Kidane of UN Trade and Development said digital technologies were creating opportunities for entrepreneurship, innovation, trade and job creation across Africa.
She said businesses could use digital platforms to reach larger markets and become more integrated into value chains.
The workshop is part of efforts to support the implementation of Ghana’s National E-Commerce Strategy and promote sustainable growth through digital trade.
