GCB Bank has denied reports that its Labone branch in Accra was targeted in a robbery attempt, saying no robbery or attempted robbery took place on its premises.

In a statement issued on Thursday (13 August), the bank said reports about an attempted robbery in the Labone area had made references to its branch, but stressed that the incident did not occur at the bank.

“GCB Bank wishes to clarify that no robbery or attempted robbery took place at our Labone Branch or on the Bank’s premises,” the statement said.

The bank said its Labone branch was not breached and that no customer, staff member, funds or bank property was affected.

It also assured customers that the branch remains secure and that banking services can continue normally.

The statement follows an earlier announcement by the Ghana Police Service that it had foiled a robbery attempt at GCB Bank, Labone, with two suspects killed and another arrested.

The police did not provide further details in its initial statement, while GCB’s clarification indicates that the reported incident occurred in the Labone area but not at the bank’s premises.

GCB said it remains in contact with the relevant authorities and will continue to monitor developments.

The bank reiterated its commitment to the safety and security of its customers, employees and facilities, saying it maintains security measures across its network.
