A 61-year-old cardiologist at the Spire Hospital Cardiff in the United Kingdom, Professor Nick Osei-Gerning, has been installed as the new chief of Effiduase in the Ashanti Region, with the stool name Nana Osei Frimping Ampem II.

He succeeds the late Effiduasehene, Nana Adu Ameyaw II, who passed on barely a year ago.

The elders and people of Effiduase gathered on Saturday at the forecourt of the Effiduase Palace, where they outdoored their new chief amid pomp and pageantry. His installation brings back hope to the people of Effiduase, who have rallied support for him to help continue the developmental agenda of the late chief.

Prof Osei-Gerning is a Consultant General and Interventional Cardiologist at Spire Hospital Cardiff, St Joseph's Hospital, and the Gloucestershire Hospital Foundation NHS Trust, all in the United Kingdom. He is also a visiting General and Interventional Cardiologist at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

He was awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to Interventional Cardiology in the UK and Africa in the 2024 New Year Honours.

He has maintained his association with the Ghana Society of Cardiology and African PCR as a Faculty member. In May 2020, he set up the Euracare Advanced Diagnostic and Heart Centre in Accra, with the main aim of helping to change the face of Cardiology in Sub-Saharan Africa.

An old student of Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape Coast, he completed his basic medical training at University College Hospital, London, and received cardiology and interventional training at the Yorkshire Heart Centre in Leeds and the University of Alberta in Canada.

In 2016, he was honoured as Professor of Practice at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for his work in Cardiology and erectile dysfunction, and currently explores the psychological effects of heart disease and ED with professors of Fine Art and Psychology. In 2015, he was appointed Silas Dodu Chair of Cardiology and Distinguished Visiting Professor of Cardiology and Pudendology at the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences.
