Fire Destroys Chop Bar at South Odorkor, Gas Cylinders and ECG Meters Damaged
Firefighters from the Dansoman Fire Station prevented an early-morning blaze at a South Odorkor chop bar from spreading to other parts of the building, with no injuries or fatalities recorded.

A fire outbreak has destroyed a chop bar at South Odorkor near New Generation Chapel in the Greater Accra Region, leaving several items damaged but causing no casualties.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at house number A175-BO, according to information from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The GNFS Fire Master Control received the emergency alert at approximately 1:30 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of personnel from the Dansoman Fire Station.
The firefighting crew was dispatched at 1:31 a.m. and arrived at the South Odorkor property eight minutes later, at approximately 1:39 a.m.
By the time firefighters reached the scene, the chop bar was already engulfed in flames.
Personnel immediately launched an operation to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the building.
Their intervention brought the blaze under control at approximately 1:58 a.m., less than 20 minutes after firefighters arrived.
Firefighters remained at the scene until the fire was completely extinguished at about 2:42 a.m.
The response prevented the flames from spreading to other parts of the property, potentially limiting what could have become a significantly larger fire.
Despite the damage to the chop bar, authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
An assessment following the incident found that several pieces of equipment had been affected by the blaze.
According to the GNFS, three 15-kilogram gas cylinders and one nine-kilogram gas cylinder were partially damaged.
A refrigerator and two Electricity Company of Ghana meters were also partially destroyed.
The presence of multiple gas cylinders at the commercial food establishment presented an additional risk during the fire, but firefighters succeeded in containing the incident without any reported casualties.
Authorities have not disclosed an estimated monetary value of the property and equipment destroyed.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established.
The Ghana National Fire Service has begun investigations to determine what triggered the blaze.
The South Odorkor incident adds to a number of recent fires involving residential and commercial properties within Accra.
Earlier in August, separate fires were recorded at Odorkor Official Town and Nungua, destroying residential and commercial structures but similarly resulting in no reported casualties.
At Odorkor Official Town, three wooden residential structures containing occupants' belongings were destroyed, while another wooden structure used as a mechanic's workshop storeroom was also consumed by fire.
Firefighters were able to prevent that blaze from spreading to adjoining structures.
