Ghanaian businessman and founder of the Kessben Group, Stephen Kwabena Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, has died at the age of 68.

Kessben reportedly died after a period of illness, bringing to an end the career of one of Ghana’s prominent entrepreneurs, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

Born on 12 September 1957, Kessben grew up in North Suntreso in Kumasi and spent more than three decades building a diversified business empire spanning media, education, hospitality, transport and financial services.

He founded the Kessben Group, which grew to include several companies, among them Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Ltd., Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult and the Kessben Foundation.

His interests also extended into broadcasting.

Kessben FM Limited operated Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV, establishing the businessman as a significant figure in Ghana’s media industry.

He also held majority shares in Multi Credit Savings and Loans Ltd.

Beyond business, Kessben was involved in public and philanthropic activities.

He served as a member of Ghana’s National Peace Council from 2004 to 2010, contributing to efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the country.

His death is expected to be felt particularly in Kumasi, where he began his business journey and built much of his commercial and social influence.
