The government is set to complete the abandoned bridge over the River Tano at Ntotroso by September 2026, paving the way for the reopening of the route to vehicular movement after eight years.

The bridge forms part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Sunyani–Atronie and Sunyani–Atronie Junction–Acherensua roads, being executed by Alexiboam Company Limited. The project is currently at 33.38 per cent physical progress.

Speaking during the Bono Regional road inspection tour on Thursday, August 19, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, said the government was committed to completing the bridge and other abandoned bridge projects across the country.

He said the government plans to complete about 50 critical bridges that were initiated but abandoned by the previous administration, noting that several of them remain unusable because the necessary approach roads have not been completed.

The Minister expressed concern about the previous practice of importing bridge components without completing the associated works, resulting in some projects being left unfinished.

He said the Ministry is working to ensure that the bridges are completed together with their approaches so they can be put to effective use and provide relief to residents and road users.

“The difficult work has been done already. I don’t expect them to be here in September. At the end of the year, this section should be done,” he said.
