The Methodist School parks at Asokore and Oyoko in the New Juaben North Constituency of the Eastern Region are to be developed into standard football parks to promote youth development and sports in the area.
A sod-cutting ceremony has been held at both locations to officially commence work on the projects.
The Member of Parliament for New Juaben North and a member of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, Nana Osei Adjei, said the development of the parks would provide opportunities for youth empowerment and talent development, with the potential to contribute positively to the local economy.
He said that upon completion, the parks would host Under-12 and Under-16 football competitions in the New Juaben North Constituency to identify and nurture promising young talents.
Nana Osei Adjei added that additional facilities, including floodlights, would be provided to allow for football activities at night.
He noted that football has become a viable business and expressed confidence that the projects would be completed within five months.
The MP presented cheques covering the estimated cost of GH¢500,000 for each project to the contractor and urged him to ensure that the parks were constructed to the required standard.
