The new Premier League season starts today, August 21, 2026 with the current champions Arsenal hosting Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal will look to start their league campaign with three points following their Community Shield win last week.

Arsenal nearly have a full fit squad for the match against Coventry City today but their summer signing Bruno Guimarães is not available to play today.

Guimarães is not in the squad so he is not included in the starting lineup or on the Arsenal bench. The Brazilian midfielder played last week in the Community Shield, where he played 45 minutes.

Guimarães started the game for Arsenal against Manchester City last weekend but he was taken off before the start of the second half.

Reports from London revealed that the Brazilian midfielder was not with the team hours before kickoff against Coventry City. The Arsenal midfield against Coventry City is Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Martin Odegaard.

Is Bruno Guimarães Injured?

Bruno Guimarães is suffering from a slight strain in his thigh that could see him out for a few weeks according to reports from Luke Edwards from The Telegraph.

Ahead of the Arsenal-Coventry City match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was asked about Guimarães’ injury and confirmed a groin issue.

Arteta said, “He felt a slight strain in the thigh area. He didn’t go through a preparation period, and he only had four or five days before the Manchester City match. There are a lot of new things for him, so we have to manage him step by step.”

It is yet unclear what type of injury the midfielder sustained but he will not make his Premier League debut for Arsenal today. For Arsenal, Guimarães played a friendly match against Como and in the Community Shield against Manchester City last weekend.
