Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is one of the lone holdovers in the receivers room, and it was expected that he would be the top target in the passing offense, regardless of whether Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders wins the starting quarterback job.

However, Jeudy has reportedly been having a lot of trouble with dropped passes during training camp, which isn’t a great sign, as he tries to hold off high draft picks KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in the preseason.

Jeudy made a cameo in last Saturday’s 34-10 preseason game loss against the Chicago Bears, but he did not have any offensive statistics or targets in his brief appearance in the first quarter with the first-team offense and Watson under center.

Concepcion and Boston, the first- and second-round picks on offense by the Browns in the 2026 NFL Draft, played a little longer, making a splash, particularly Concepcion. He produced the team’s first (and only) touchdown of the preseason, with Concepcion taking a 14-yard run to the house, giving Cleveland its only lead of the game.

Jeudy is sometimes mockingly called “Jerry Booty” by jeering fans who are tired of the drops and inconsistent play. Has it really been Jeudy’s fault, though, in recent seasons? He hasn’t exactly played with Josh Allen, Joe Burrow or Patrick Mahomes since coming over to the Browns. Like every other wide receiver in the past three decades, he has had a revolving door at quarterback, with little to no stability.

After producing his only 1,000-yard campaign in 2024, working with the likes of Watson, Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe, he failed to jell with Sanders, Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco in 2025, producing just 50 grabs for 731 yards and six scores. The latter is still pretty impressive, given the instability under center.

If Boston and Concepcion are able to prove sooner, rather than later, that they’re capable of handling a majority of the targets, the Browns could dangle Jeudy to a contender leading up to the trade deadline. Harold Fannin Jr. has proven to be a top target in the Cleveland offense, too, pushing Jeudy further down the pecking order.

Jeudy has a $10,372,400 cap hit, but he is under contract for 2027, with a $13,472,400 cap hit. It might be tough to get other teams enthusiastic about Jeudy at that cost. Still, Jeudy either needs to figure out how to stop the drops, and get back into his 2024 form, or he might be relegated to a complementary role, either in Cleveland, or another team.
