A coalition of freight forwarders has begun a four-day strike today at Tema Port over concerns with a newly introduced AI-driven system.
The group says the system has caused inefficiencies and increased charges, affecting cargo clearance and trade operations.
Members of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) are participating in the industrial action, which runs from Tuesday, 14 April to Friday, 17 April 2026.
Speaking on the action, GIFF General Secretary Paul Kobina Mensah said members had withdrawn their services.
“We are embarking on a four-day coordinated strike from Tuesday, April 14, to Friday, April 17. After that, traders may be asked to extend the action into the following week if our concerns are not addressed,” he said.
He added, “We are not going to pay duties. Some payments are done online, and we are monitoring that. We will also not be processing online payments.”
The group is calling for a review of the system and broader reforms in port administration.
