Ghana’s economic recovery has received a strong vote of confidence from the World Bank, with senior officials praising both the country’s recent macroeconomic performance and the leadership of Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson.
At a high-level meeting in Washington, D.C., the World Bank’s Regional Vice President for Western and Central Africa, Ousmane Diagana, described Ghana’s economic turnaround over the past year as “impressive,” signalling the institution’s readiness to deepen its support.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Dr Forson said 2025 marked a decisive turning point following a difficult economic period, noting that Ghana is now firmly on the path to debt sustainability and transitioning towards sustained growth.
World Bank officials also commended the government’s reform agenda. The Regional Practice Director for Prosperity, Seynabou Sakho, described the minister’s fiscal reforms as exemplary, saying Ghana’s economic restructuring efforts have drawn recognition beyond its borders.
Meanwhile, the Regional Practice Director for People, Trina Hague, highlighted the country’s resilience and its commitment to protecting vulnerable populations despite ongoing global economic pressures.
Dr Forson pointed to key gains underpinning the recovery, including a sharp drop in inflation—from 23% to 3.2%—as well as improved currency stability and continued investment in social intervention programmes.
With macroeconomic stability gradually being restored, the minister said the next phase of development will prioritise strategic sectors such as agriculture, energy, education and infrastructure.
The renewed backing from the World Bank is expected to strengthen Ghana’s efforts to consolidate its recovery and accelerate inclusive economic growth in the years ahead.
