Ghana police said two suspected armed robbers were shot dead on Monday after attacking a mobile money vendor in Tema, in an incident that left the victim injured.
The Tema Regional Police Command said the suspects attempted to rob the vendor at Aba Fosuah Plaza in Community 5 at about 0830 GMT.
One of the assailants, posing as a customer, drew a pistol and demanded cash, while his accomplice joined in a struggle with the victim.
Police said the victim was shot in the leg during the altercation before the attackers fled on a motorbike.
A patrol team responding to a distress call pursued the suspects, who opened fire near a junction close to a hotel in the area. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding both men, police said.
The suspects were taken to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the morgue for identification and autopsy.
Police said a search recovered a 9mm pistol with ammunition, three mobile phones, SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key and 11,390 cedis in cash.
A Ghana Card found on the suspects was identified as belonging to the victim.
The injured vendor is receiving treatment and is in stable condition, police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, reiterating their commitment to maintaining security in the region.
