Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has delivered a strong message to his squad, insisting that commitment and mentality will define their success on the global stage more than natural ability.

With just a month remaining before Ghana’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Portuguese tactician has challenged his players to embrace discipline, humility, and collective sacrifice as they prepare for a demanding Group L campaign.

The four-time African champions will make their fifth World Cup appearance in North America, where the tournament will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking to the squad, Queiroz stressed that success and respect on the world stage are earned through effort rather than reputation.

“The world will only respect us when our commitment, humility, sacrifice, and mentality are bigger than our talent,” Queiroz said.

“Great national teams are not built by words, but by players ready to suffer, fight, and give everything for the badge and for the dreams of their fans,” he added.

He urged the team to approach every aspect of their preparations with intensity as they seek to progress beyond the group stage, a hurdle Ghana failed to overcome in its last two World Cup appearances.

“Every training session, every duel, every sprint and pass, every small detail matters now. To be present, to participate, will not be enough — our mission is to elevate the reputation, pride, and prestige of Ghana football to a level never seen before,” he said.

“The Black Stars shirt must stand on a higher podium of honour, respect, and greatness.”

“United and hungry, impossible missions become history. Time to sacrifice, time to deliver,” he added.

The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, Ghana will continue preparations with friendly matches against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2.
