President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-hour economy market in Bole in the Savannah Region, describing the project as a key intervention to expand trade and boost local economic activity.

The project, which is part of a national programme to build 261 markets across the country, is expected to position Bole as a major commercial hub for agricultural produce and inter-district trade in northern Ghana.

Mahama said the facility would be developed as a model market under the initiative, adding that it was expected to become one of the busiest trading centres in the Savannah Region once completed.

He said the broader market programme was aimed at improving income generation, supporting farmers and traders, and strengthening the circulation of money within local economies.

Beyond the market project, Mahama also outlined several ongoing and planned developments in the Savannah Region, including a 150-bed district hospital, a college of education, STEM-focused schools, a regional university, feeder roads, water systems and agricultural support infrastructure.

The government said the interventions form part of efforts to reduce poverty and expand access to economic opportunities in underserved areas.
